The back of the medallion features the Pentagon building and a quotation from President George W. Bush from his October 7, 2001, address to the nation: "We will not waver, we will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail." "PENTAGON OBSERVANCE" flanks the top sides.

Historical Notes
Chip Forbes, the founder and head of C. Forbes, Inc., designed and produced lapel pins for the “United in Memory” ceremony to be held at the Pentagon one month after 9/11. The pins were designed and distributed at the October 11, 2001, gathering for Pentagon victim family members, survivors, and other attendees. It soon became clear that many who had been unable to attend the ceremony, and individuals with a less direct and immediate connection, also wanted to wear the lapel pin. As a result, Forbes produced additional pins as well as challenge coins and medallions using a similar design.
