Native New Yorker Joseph Leavey lived in Pelham, New York, with his wife, Carole. Two of their three children were still at home. An architecture fan whose favorite buildings were the Twin Towers, Joseph worked as a construction engineer before joining FDNY Ladder Company 15. On September 11, Lieutenant Leavey was heard on a radio transmission on the South Tower’s 78th floor. He was 45 years old.
