Historical Notes
A native New Yorker, Thomas Maher worked as an apprentice carpenter on the original construction of the World Financial Center and later worked on the World Trade Center complex after the 1993 bombing. Following 9/11, Maher volunteered at Ground Zero building lay-down ramps for the fire hoses and assisted in picking through the rubble. He was later assigned by his union, Local 608, to work at various buildings around the World Trade Center site. He later suffered from 9/11-related health issues.
