Historical Notes
Queens native Raymond York lived on Long Island. He and his wife, Joan, had three children, and Raymond also had a daughter from a previous marriage. A member of FDNY Engine Company 285, Firefighter York had been injured in 2000 and was on light duty participating in a children’s fire safety show on September 11. When he heard of the attacks, he responded to the towers. He was 45 years old.
