Hexagon-shaped patch embroidered with red and dark blue borders and with a light blue background with white embroidered text: “HONG KONG, CHINA | JEBEL ALI, UAE | MANILA, PHILIPPINES | PUSAN, SOUTH KOREA | KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA | PEARL HARBOR, HAWAII.” The center of the patch is embroidered with an outline of the country of Afghanistan, with a road leading out and a bomb pointed at the head of a figure resembling Osama bin Laden. An exclamation point is above the head of bin Laden, and red crosshairs are on his turban. A banner with “THE PREQUEL” embroidered on it transverses the image. “2011 COMBAT CRUISE | 02 MAY 11 - GERONIMO!” is also embroidered on the patch as well as “VFA-81 VFA-25 VFA-113 VFA-22 VAW-125 VAQ-134 HS-15 and VRC-40 CVW-17 and CVN-70.” The dates “NOV ’10 and JUN ’11” are also embroidered.
A native of Queens, New York, U.S. Navy Officer Dennis Beck received this patch to commemorate his service as a crew member aboard the USS Carl Vinson on May 2, 2011. This is the date when the body of Osama bin Laden was transferred from a U.S. controlled airfield in Afghanistan and brought aboard the vessel for burial at sea.
