Remembrance
Description
Diptych collage on particle board titled Remembrance by Elaine Forrest. The collage is composed of two panels. The left panel includes torn paper with the Twin Towers made from newsprint images of victim's faces taken from the New York Times. The North Tower has a three-dimensional quality. The Statue of Liberty is painted to the left of the towers, accented in red. An airplane is drawn in charcaol and pointed towards the left tower. The right panel of the diptych is composed of torn paper, with a larger charcoal drawing of an airplane approaching the tower on the right.
Each panel is covered in Minwax Polycrylic clear protective finish.
Historical Notes
Having lived in California for many years, native New Yorker Elaine Forrest returned to Manhattan in January 2001, moving with her husband to lower Manhattan. Forrest was at home on the morning of September 11, 2001, and felt the impact of the planes striking the towers as well as their successive collapses. Her collage incorporates bits of paper and other debris that had blown from the towers onto her terrace and surrounding streets.
