American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) embroidered uniform patch depicting the image of a horse and cart in the center. The horse is being beaten by a man with a stick. The date "1866" is embroidered below the image. Text embroidered in white against a dark blue background reads: "ASPCA | Humane Law | Enforcement." The patch resembles the NYPD uniform patch.
Diane DiGiacomo was a peace officer with the Humane Law Enforcement division of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), an agency that responded to 9/11. Its officers sought to rescue animals in homes near the World Trade Center site from which residents had been evacuated or to which they were unable to return after the emergency.
