Historical Notes
Lieutenant William (Bill) Gleason was an EMT with FDNY Battalion 46 in Queens on 9/11. Off duty that morning, he heard about the attacks on the radio and went home to gather mountain-climbing equipment he thought might be of use during the rescue efforts. By the time he got to the World Trade Center, both towers had collapsed. Gleason wore this headlamp over his helmet while assisting with the rescue efforts on the site. Gleason worked at Ground Zero for the duration of the recovery period.
