Historical Notes
Owned by restaurateur Tony May, Gemelli Restaurant & Bar opened in 1997 and was destroyed on 9/11. Gemelli (Italian for “Twins”) was described as an “unfussy, relaxed place” with its “kitchen and pizza oven in full view.” Gemelli served the traditional lunch fare of pizza, pasta, and salad alongside some gourmet culinary creations. Gemelli contained a long bar and terrace with views of the plaza. In the winter months, when the plaza entrance was closed, elevators brought diners from the concourse level to the main dining room.
