Historical Notes
On 9/11, FDNY Assistant Chief of EMS Jerry Gombo was responsible for establishing the EMS command post near the World Trade Center. Located across West Street near 2 World Financial Center, Gombo was caught in the dust cloud when the South Tower collapsed. He used this flashlight to illuminate his way to safety through the choking dust and debris.
