Description Wooden key chain belonging to Thomas Patrick DeAngelis. The key chain has "DAD" written on the front in a child's hand. Various nuts, screws, and washers are glued around the border. On the back is handwritten "love | Nicole."
Historical Notes Born in Valley Stream, Long Island, Thomas DeAngelis lived in Westbury with his wife, Pat, and their teenage daughter. Thomas also had two grown children. Through 27 years with the FDNY, he rose to the rank of battalion chief and earned the nickname Chuckles for his good humor. On September 11, Chief DeAngelis responded to the World Trade Center. He was 51 years old.
Curator's Comment Thomas DeAngelis had a “third arm” according to his daughter Nicole: his hammer. The tool, a gift from Thomas’s father, was often in his hand as he worked on projects such as a dollhouse or a backyard shed. Thomas felt closer to his father when he used the hammer and believed the family connection helped the tool “work magic.” HIDE
