Historical Notes
Long Island native Kevin Donnelly lived in Mineola with his partner, Mary. A water lover who kept swim gear in his car for sudden beach trips, Kevin hoped to resume lifeguarding, a job he first held in Wantagh as a teen. The 23-year FDNY veteran was also studying to take the agency’s captain exam. On September 11, Lieutenant Donnelly and his Ladder Company 3 responded to the towers. He was 43 years old.
