Brooklyn native John McAvoy lived with his wife, Paula, and their two children in Richmond, Staten Island. A hockey fan, he coached local youth teams. John enjoyed feeding a crowd and was the designated cook at his family’s annual picnic. A firefighter at FDNY Ladder Company 3, Firefighter McAvoy responded to the North Tower on September 11 and last checked in from its 31st floor. He was 47 years old.
