Cross with base forged from steel recovered at the World Trade Center site.
During their breaks, some ironworkers cut symbols and shapes out of discarded steel to give as mementos and tokens of comfort to other workers and victims’ relatives. This piece of symbol steel was made by William Quinlan, a Local 40 ironworker who also worked on the original construction of the World Trade Center.
