Description Print photograph depicting Christine Lee Hanson wearing a traditional Korean kimono celebrating her one-year “Cheot-dol” birthday. The photograph is enclosed in a wooden frame with "Peace" printed below the photo on the frame.
Historical Notes Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Christine Hanson lived in Groton with her parents, Peter and Sue Hanson. A preschool student, Christine often helped her father in the family garden and was known to talk to the flowers and trees they planted together. On September 11, Christine boarded Flight 175 with her parents to visit family in Los Angeles and go to Disneyland. She was two-and-a-half years old.
Curator's Comment Christine Hanson’s grandmother remembered her granddaughter as being “love personified.” Christine tended her family’s garden, telling the plants, “I bet you are thirsty. Let me feed you and give you a hug.” In the framed picture, she is dressed for her doljanchi, a Korean celebration of a child’s first birthday, in keeping with her mother’s heritage. Christine and her parents, Sue Kim and Peter Hanson, boarded Flight 175 to visit her Korean great-grandmother in California. Christine was the youngest victim of the 9/11 attacks. HIDE
