Small rectangular dry-erase whiteboard belonging to the family of Robert Francis Wallace. Written in blue marker and circled on the board is handwritten text: "TUES | E226 | L 118." In a child's hand, written at the bottom of the board in faded marker, is text: "DAD, we were waiting for you to come Home when you never left. Your [sic] still here." At the top of the board, in the same faded marker, is written: "Lt Robert Wallace is our hero."

Historical Notes
Raised in Midwood in Brooklyn, Robert Wallace lived in Woodhaven, Queens, with his wife, Nancy. They had four children, ages 12 to 21. In the summer, Robert took the family fishing and horseback riding in upstate New York, where he spoke of moving and working as a sheriff after retiring from FDNY Engine Company 205. On September 11, Lieutenant Wallace responded to the towers. He was 43 years old.

Robert used this whiteboard to let his family know where he was working on a given day. His family preserved his last note, and added messages written in his memory.
