Historical Notes
In late October 2001, all eyes turned to the World Series. With the New York Yankees playing the Arizona Diamondbacks, 9/11 would shadow the series, particularly for games 3, 4, and 5 at Yankee Stadium, just miles from Ground Zero.
For more than two decades, Freddy Schuman enjoyed celebrity among New York Yankees fans as Freddy Sez. He was known for his handwritten signs and for banging on this pan with a spoon at home games in the Bronx. He attended the 2001 World Series games at Yankee Stadium with unique posters. As the guest of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Schuman even traveled to Arizona for game 7, the last game of the series.
