Description
Rescue helmet. The helmet is white with black zebra stripes with a cap-style brim, rubber impact rim, and chin strap. On the front of the helmet is an American flag sticker with "MATF-1 printed on the flag in outline text." On the back of the hat, "GIUNTA" is printed above a sticker with printed text: "MASS Task Force 1 | Served Proudly at | Atlanta 1996 | Worchester 1999 | World Trade Center 2001." The helmet is covered in a variety of trade and commemorative stickers.
Historical Notes
Gerry Giunta, a career firefighter and member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Urban Search and Rescue Team, wore this helmet when he worked with Massachusetts Task Force 1 at Ground Zero during the recovery period. Giunta was the Rescue Squad Leader and Director of Search Operations while deployed with the US&R MATF1.
