Description Recovered metal vise-grip, or locking pliers, belonging to Michael D. D'Auria. The tool is tarnished and rusted.
Historical Notes Brooklyn-born Michael D’Auria lived in Great Kills, Staten Island. Too young for the FDNY exam when he finished high school, he trained as a chef and worked in area restaurants. When he later took the exam—and earned a perfect score—Michael was assigned to Engine Company 40. On the job for nine weeks on September 11, Firefighter D’Auria responded to the Twin Towers with his unit. He was 25 years old.
