Historical Notes
Thomas Sabella was born in Brooklyn. He lived with his wife, Diana, and their two school-age children in the Willowbrook, Staten Island, home he had renovated. There, he kept a vegetable garden and, reviving a family tradition, had begun making wine. An 18-year FDNY firefighter, Thomas was assigned to Ladder Company 13. On September 11, Firefighter Sabella responded to the North Tower. He was 44 years old.
