Recovered Sony brand tape recorder with leather carrying case. The device is damaged, with dirt and dust coating the exterior and jamming the buttons and dials.
Historical Notes
This recovered tape recorder was used by the late WCBS radio reporter MaryGay Taylor on 9/11/01, as she reported live from the Millenium Hotel across from the World Trade Center. When the South Tower collapsed, Taylor lost her recorder when she sought safety by rolling under a nearby car. The recorder was later recovered and returned to her, still containing the cassette tape she was using to record the unfolding disaster. Taylor had previously provided live coverage of the late-breaking news of the bombing at the World Trade Center in February, 1993.
