Brooklyn resident Shevonne Mentis was born in Guyana. She ran a small grocery and taxi business there before emigrating to the United States in 1999. Shevonne worked as a clerk at Marsh & McLennan while paying her way through a business management program at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. On September 11, she was at her office on the North Tower’s 93rd floor. Shevonne was 25 years old.
