Karen Martin was born in Beverly, Massachusetts, and lived in Danvers. A sportswoman with a competitive streak, she preferred the steeper slopes when skiing, and when she golfed, she used the men’s tee. An American Airlines flight attendant since 1989, on September 11, Karen was serving as lead flight attendant aboard Flight 11. She was 40 years old.
