Curator's Comment Originally from Bangladesh, Shakila Yasmin came to the United States with her family in 1992 as a 16-year-old. She hoped to return one day to help people in need. Her hometown of Dhaka is known for Bangladeshi jewelry production, especially detailed wire designs called filigree. These earrings show elements of filigree. Both Shakila and her husband, Nurul H. Miah, worked for Marsh & McLennan Companies and died on 9/11. HIDE
