Historical Notes Deer Park, Long Island, native Joseph Vigiano lived in Medford with his wife, Kathleen, and their three sons. A detective with NYPD Emergency Service Squad 2, Joseph played on the NYPD lacrosse team. On September 11, as Detective Vigiano helped evacuees in the North Tower, his older brother, FDNY Firefighter John Vigiano, also responded to the World Trade Center. Both perished. Joseph was 34 years old.
Queens native John Vigiano lived in West Islip, Long Island, with his wife, Maria, and their two daughters. A member of FDNY Ladder Company 132, he was cocaptain of his firehouse’s hockey team. On September 11, Firefighter Vigiano responded to the towers and was seen in the Marriott hotel lobby. His brother, Joseph Vigiano, an NYPD detective, was in the North Tower. Both perished. John was 36 years old.
