DescriptionQuilt panel composed of four individual handmade quilts from the project An American Quilt.
The first quilt was created in memory of
Paul Kenneth Sloan and has an appliquéd tree with "Family, Faith, Fidelity, Friends" embroidered in its roots. A broken heart is at the bottom. Written on the leaves are different interests, words, and sayings such as: "Beatles, Brother, Whaaaat?" In the upper left corner is a photo transfer and text: "Paul Sloan 7-30-75 9-11-01 | Novato, CA."
The second quilt was created in memory of
Joseph M. Calandrillo. The fabric has patriotic themes and three-dimensional objects are sewn onto the quilt, including an Islanders cap, a tie, Mets and Islanders pennants, a teddy bear, and fake roses. A portrait image is in the center.
The quilt on the top right was created in memory of
William Robert Godshalk. The border is a patriotic-themed fabric, and the quilt is covered in photo transfers and children's drawings. In the center is an American flag, and handwritten at the top is text: "William R. 'Bill' Godshalk | 5-4-66/9-11-01 | Vice President Equity Sales, Keefe Brunette & Woods | WTC Tower 2 - 89 floor."
On the lower right is a quilt created in memory of
Victor J. Saracini. White hearts are appliquéd on the quilt, with blue names written on the hearts. There are photo transfers and written remembrances. In the center is a drawing of a police officer with the Twin Towers next to him. "Victor J. Saracini | In Our Hearts Forever" is embroidered in the center.
