DescriptionQuilt panel composed of four individual handmade quilts, each containing a tie to baseball, the Mets, or the New York Yankees, from the project An American Quilt.
The first quilt was created in memory of
Edward DeSimone III. The border is a Yankees-themed fabric with a solid blue center panel. "Edward DeSimone III" is appliquéd in the middle. Photo transfers and other appliquéd images represent interests such as cooking and fishing. There is also a written remembrance from his wife.
The second quilt was created in memory of
James P. O'Brien, Jr., and is solid blue fabric with appliquéd text: "James Patrick O'Brien | Brooklyn New York | Father Son Grandson Friend | Jim Buddy." There is a photo transfer and an appliquéd Mets jersey, a lapel pin, and a swatch of fabric labeled "Aiden's Christening gown, December 2001."
The quilt on the top right was created in memory of
Carl Anthony DiFranco and has a New York Yankees-themed border fabric. The red center fabric has white stars. Blue letters state: "Forever in our Hearts | Carl A. DiFranco | 10/31/73 - 9/11/01 | Forever is our Love." There are also two photo transfers and one written remembrance.
The quilt on the bottom right is in memory of
Martin Michael Boryczewski. The border is red, white, and blue, and the quilt is covered in photo transfers and handwritten remembrances. On the right side is a portrait photograph with text "Martin Boryczewski | Forever is our love . . . Forever in our hearts . . . | Cantor Fitzgerald WTC 31 - 104th flr."
