Historical Notes
Government agencies and universities studied the physics of the jetliner impacts and collapses at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Some individuals doubted official explanations about who perpetrated the attacks and why the buildings collapsed. Responding to assertions by conspiracy theorists, the magazine Popular Mechanics conducted its own investigations. It concluded that none of the conspiracy theories, notably that explosives had been planted, held any merit.
