Nine West brand pair of women's black high heels with crisscross ankle strap. The shoes are worn, with the soles heavily scuffed and scratched. The fabric almost has a hole in the area of the toe on the left shoe. Both shoes are coated with dust.
May Davis Group employee Joanne "JoJo" Capestro began her evacuation on the 87th floor of the North Tower after experiencing what felt like an earthquake and smelling jet fuel. She began her descent with several colleagues and reached the street level just as the South Tower collapsed. Sheltering behind a vehicle near St. Paul's Chapel, Capestro was assisted by a fireman before encountering a coworker who accompanied her away from the area. Covered in dust, Capestro wasn't able to reach her home in Brooklyn until late afternoon. Capestro saved the dust-covered shoes and clothing she was wearing as a testament to her evacuation experience and survival. She donated both to the 9/11 Museum.
