Coffee cup with matching saucer used at the Windows on the World restaurant. The yellow and blue graphic detailing resembles a rising sun, and the rays evoke the facade of the Twin Towers.
Historical Notes
When conducting restaurant-related business in the social setting of his home, David Emil, owner of Windows on the World, often borrowed furnishings, china, glass, and cutlery from the restaurant. Designed by Milton Glaser, the dining ware used in the restaurant included motifs of a rising sun and an evening sky. Because Emil had some of the dining ware in his home, these pieces were spared destruction when the Twin Towers collapsed on 9/11.
