Historical Notes
Members of FDNY Squad 41 began searching the site for six missing colleagues immediately after 9/11. In March 2002, they found an ax and other tools marked with their company’s number in a previously inaccessible area of the South Tower. Along with the tools, the remains of some members of their company were found near the Last Column.
