Description
Portable evacuation chair with blue finish and yellow-colored seat hammock and head restraint. The chair includes two sets of wheels: larger black wheels in the front and a pair of smaller wheels that retract and extend from the sled-like component (tracks) below the seat. The tracks are used to slide the chair down flights of stairs while keeping the seat in the upright position. The handle can also extend to adjust to the height of the person operating the chair.
Historical Notes
Following the 1993 bombing, the Port Authority provided lightweight evacuation chairs for World Trade Center tenants in need of assistance. On 9/11, coworkers carried Port Authority accountant John Abruzzo, a quadriplegic, down to safety from the 69th floor in this portable evacuation chair.
