Description Pair of white leather golf cleats belonging to Kazushige Ito.
Historical Notes Born in Hiroshima, Japan, Kazushige Ito lived in Manhattan with his wife, Yuko. A vice president at Fuji Bank, Kazushige had worked for the company in Japan and the Philippines before transferring to its New York office in 1998. Kazushige enjoyed jogging in Central Park and had run his first New York City Marathon in 2000. On September 11, he was at work on the South Tower’s 82nd floor. He was 35 years old.
Curator's Comment An avid golfer, Kazushige Ito played a round in these shoes the weekend prior to 9/11. He kept balls in his golf bag, and stowed tees inside a food seasoning tin. After Kazushige’s death, his father, Tsugio, arranged these items in a shadow box as a memorial donation. For Tsugio, 9/11 was a second personal loss at a place known as Ground Zero: 56 years earlier, his brother died after the atomic bomb was dropped on their hometown of Hiroshima, Japan, during World War II.
