New Jersey Transit rail pass dated September 01 and signed by James Kazalis.
James Kazalis was engrossed in paperwork at his desk on the 67th floor of the South Tower when he heard an explosion. Seeing swirling paper outside the window, he immediately shut down his computer, grabbed his jacket and briefcase, and entered the nearest stairwell.
When he reached the 44th floor, Kazalis exited the stairwell and joined others watching a televised news report of a plane crashing into the World Trade Center. He also heard a public address announcement that the disaster was confined to the North Tower. Kazalis was considering whether to return upstairs when he was knocked to the floor by a huge force: the crash of hijacked Flight 175 into the South Tower. Regaining his equilibrium and wanting to retrieve his monthly rail pass that had fallen a few feet away, he moved against a crowd now desperate to evacuate.
Kazalis successfully evacuated the building and began walking north. After many hours, he boarded a train, the rail pass serving as his ticket home.
